Frank Lampard Could Miss Manchester City’s Crunch Clash Against Chelsea.
Frank Lampard could be in danger of missing Manchester City’s must-win game against former club Chelsea later this month after picking up a hip injury during a mid-season friendly against Hamburg on Wednesday night.
The reigning Premier League champions have been enjoying a warm weather break in Abu-Dhabi this week and won the game 2-0. However, it may have come at a cost if the 36-year-old midfielder, who has chipped in with a number of important goals this season, is forced to miss games.
One such strike came against Chelsea earlier in the season, a late equaliser at the Etihad Stadium, but speaking to the media after the game Manuel Pellegrini tried to remain positive and is hopeful that the damage isn’t as first thought.
“Frank was injured in the warm-up. He felt some problem in his muscle but I don’t think it will be very serious. We took him off just as a precaution,” the Chilean explained.
“I hope that he will be fit, not only for Chelsea, but for the FA Cup [against Middlesbrough on Saturday]. It was just a small problem, but he asked to try to play. After that he told us it was impossible but I don’t think that it will be a very important injury and we hope that we can have him for Saturday.”
Speaking about the general implications of that game against Chelsea, the manager is keen not put too much pressure on getting a result.
“I think it’s a very important game, but it’s not the last game. We hope that we are not going to lose that game but if we don’t win we will continue fighting for the title because you never know what happens in football.”
