Anderson Silva Unanimously Approved for UFC 183 Fight License
Former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva for quite some time has been planning to fight Nick Diaz in the five-round main event at UFC 183 on Jan. 31 in Las Vegas.
On Monday, Silva received the unanimous approval of the Nevada Athletic Commission to grant him a license to make the fight happen. Now, it’s just a matter of Silva remaining healthy and making weight prior to fight time.
Considering Silva’s age and recent medical history, it wasn’t necessarily a given that he would be granted a license, but he was.
The 39-year-old former champ, who suffered a severely broken leg at UFC 168 in December of 2013, provided the proper medical paperwork and sufficient reassurances to the Commission that he was indeed healed and ready to fight Diaz.
“I’m good. I’m very happy,” Silva told Nevada’s commissioners, before adding that his injured leg was now, “Good, great.”
Silva and Diaz are fighting in a non-title middleweight bout at UFC 183, but UFC president Dana White recently indicated that, shoulder Silva be successful and defeat Diaz, who could be the next opponent for the winner of the UFC 184 bout between middleweight champion Chris Weidman and challenger Vitor Belfort.
