Ouseph secures Swedish title

The Team Derby captain, who last won on the world circuit at the 2013 Finnish Open, completed a 21-15 21-17 win over the Spaniard in Uppsala.
Seizing command from the start, Ouseph did not trail at any stage, but Abian battled stubbornly until the Middlesex right-hander sealed victory.
“It was great to get the win,” said Ouseph. “I mainly played for the match practice for the new season and I was trying not to focus on being top seed and just taking one match at a time.
“But the final was fairly comfortable and I just needed to stay disciplined which I managed to do well.”
Ouseph will lead Team Derby back into National Badminton League action in next Monday’s Match-night 4 fixture at Surrey Smashers.
Meanwhile, Sophie Brown and Kate Robertshaw proved the surprise package in Sweden after becoming the only unseeded players in Sunday’s five finals.
Brown of MK Badminton and Team Derby’s Robertshaw beat the number three seeds in the quarter-finals before ousting the Netherlands’ top seeds in Saturday’s semi-final.
The English pair made a strong start against Russia’s number two seeds, Anatasia Chervyakova and Nina Vislova, taking the first game 21-17.
They were tantalisingly close to victory after moving to match point at 21-20 up in the second, but the Russians snatched the next two points and then took the third 21-14.
