Stevan Jovetic Must Prove His Fitness to Stay at Manchester City, Says Manuel Pellegrini
Manuel Pellegrini has urged Stevan Jovetic to prove his fitness if he wants to remain a Manchester City player. However, the manager denied it was related to his decision to drop the player from his squad for the next stage of the Champions League.
“It’s very important now for Stevan to play as many games as he can, to not be injured and have a high performance level whenever he plays,” Pellegrini told the media this week.
“After the decision we will analyse. Not just Stevan but all of the squad, which ones will continue next season,” he explained.
Since securing a big money move from Fiorentina in 2013, Jovetic has struggled for playing time because of persistent injury problems and is yet to enjoy an elongated run in the team.
Frustratingly when he has played, the 25-year-old forward has often done well, perhaps most notably a stunning performances in a win against Liverpool earlier this season.
Now though, the Montenegrin international won’t get the chance to impress on the European stage when the Premier League champions take on Barcelona later this month, having been removed from the squad to make room for City’s new £28m signing Wilfried Bony.
