Peng had lost each of her previous two meetings with Russia’s Kudryavtseva, both coming in 2008, but the world number 21 from China was not to be denied a third time as she claimed a 6-3 6-2 win in 75 minutes.
Peng’s compatriot, eighth seed Shuai Zhang, was also a straight-sets winner on Tuesday as she defeated Croatia’s Donna Vekic 6-2 6-0.
Fourth seed Kurumi Nara of Japan was similarly clinical in seeing off local wildcard Nicha Lertpitaksinchai 6-2 6-1, but third seed Zarina Diyas was ousted 1-6 6-3 6-1 by Daniela Hantuchova.
Sixth seed Jarmila Gajdosova edged out qualifier Misa Eguchi 6-3 7-6 (7/1) and Yuliya Beygelzimer ousted Kimiko Date-Krumm with a 5-7 7-6 (8/6) 6-2 triumph.
Among the other players to seal their second-round spots were Marina Erakovic, Misaki Doi, Ajla Tomljanovic and lucky loser Lin Zhu, who beat Shahar Peer 7-6 (7/5) 6-1.
