David De Gea Will Stay at Manchester United, Insists Jorge Mendes
David de Gea will remain at Manchester United despite interest from Real Madrid, according to player’s agent Jorge Mendes, The Mirror reports.
The 24-year-old is out of contract in 17 months time and has been tipped to succeed veteran goalkeeper Iker Casillas at the Santiago Bernabeu.
However, Mendes has sought to put an end to the recent speculation, telling BBC Sport that he expects the de Gea to remain at Old Trafford – at least for the time being.
“He has one year left on his contract and I think that he will stay in Manchester,” Mendes revealed.
“The player will decide, but he’s happy there at the moment.”
The Spain international has played every single minute of United’s campaign so far, despite the arrival of compatriot Victor Valdes in January.
The 33-year-old said at the time: “I think now, in the moment, (de Gea) is the best goalkeeper in the world.
“His performance every day and in every game shows everybody that his level is very high. He has had a great year and it’s very nice. Now I think he is the best goalkeeper in the world.”
