Dani Alves Edges Closer to Barcelona Exit as Agent Set for Manchester United Talks

Manchester United could be about to set the ball rolling on a deal that would see Dani Alves join the club on a free transfer from Barcelona in the summer.

The Daily Express cites sources in Spain to suggest that the 31-year-old full-back’s agent, Dinorah Santana, is due to fly to England to meet with Old Trafford representatives and open prospective talks in the coming days.
Alves’s is currently in the final six months of his contract at the Camp Nou and is in theory already free to speak to other clubs with a view to sealing a move when he formally becomes a free agent in July.
Earlier this week Santana had set the ball rolling on the subject of the defender’s future, claiming that Barcelona had yet to even discuss the possibility of a contract extension, additionally threatening that Alves would soon be on the move as a result.
United manager Louis van Gaal is believed to be interested although, the Premier League club may feel uneasy about breaking its usual ‘over 30s’ policy to offer Alves the three year contract he is reportedly looking for.
resizeUnited’s only current recognised right-back is Rafael. However, Antonio Valencia has spent much of the campaign occupying a full-back/wing-back role, with Chris Smalling and Phil Jones operating there in the past.
This week van Gaal has also commented on the possibility that Paddy McNair may offer the long term solution to the problematic position. “Maybe he shall be the right full-back of Manchester United for the next 10 years, you never know. He has the chance,” the Dutchman said.
