Marouane Fellaini: Manchester United Must Do Everything to Inflict More Misery on City
Marouane Fellaini says his Manchester United side "have to do everything" to beat Manchester City in Sunday's derby to ensure they're playing Champions League football next season, as reported by the Mirror.
The Red Devils, who failed to qualify for any continental competition last season, climbed to third in the Premier League with a win over Aston Villa on Saturday - overtaking their city rivals who lost to Crystal Palace on Monday.
City's Selhurst Park defeat was their third in succession on the road and United can pile on further away misery for Manuel Pellegrini's men with a win at Old Trafford this weekend.
Blues captain Vincent Kompany says Sunday's derby is the "perfect place" for the reigning champions to put an end to their wretched run, which has seen them pick up 18 points from a possible 36 in 2015.
But United are on a run of five straight victories and have lost just twice in the league since a 1-0 defeat at the Etihad Stadium in November, and Fellaini is hoping to inflict further damage to his city rivals.
“It’s a massive game,” the midfielder said. “It’s the derby, so it will be intense for the players and the supporters.
“We want to play in the Champions League next season so we have to win in front of our supporters. We have to do everything to win.
“In England every game is like a derby, because it’s physical. In the derby you have to be more aggressive and more tough if you want to win.
“Everything has to be within the rules, but the physical side in England is why it’s such a competitive league.
“Kompany is a tough player and it’s certainly a hard battle when we play against each other. It will be a good challenge but to win the game is the most important thing."
