Burnley 0-0 Tottenham: Kane Reign Begins With Bore Draw
Spurs drew 0-0 with relegation battlers Burnley in an irredeemably dull game at Turf Moor.
Neither side dominated the game, which contained far more errors than it did moments of quality, leading to many viewers calling it the worst game of the season so far.
With Jan Vertonghen absent due to illness, Crown Prince of North London Harry Kane was handed the captain's armband for the first time, making him the youngest captain in the Premier League this season, while Paulinho was given a rare start in midfield. Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino wasn't fooled by Andros Townsend's brief impression of competence for England in midweek, and left the winger on the bench.
Burnley entered the game with an unchanged side once again, manager Sean Dyche continuing to trust in the fitness of his players.
Danny Ings almost got the relegation-threatened Clarets off to the perfect start when Ryan Mason's mistake put him clean through on goal, but he only managed to put a weak shot straight at Michel Vorm in the Spurs goal.
The rest of the first half ambled on without many further clear-cut chances, with a couple of long-range shots from Christian Eriksen and Nacer Chadli saved with reasonable ease by Tom Heaton.
The Clarets knew that a win would take them up to 16th place and out of the drop zone, with a draw taking them level on points with out-of-form Sunderland, playing later against Newcastle.
There was one moment of real quality just before half-time, Danny Ings hitting a wicked, dipping, curling shot from 25 yards out which was brilliantly tipped over by the outstretched hand of Vorm.
