Louis van Gaal Makes Plans for 4 Signings and Up to 10 Departures at Manchester United
Louis van Gaal has the funds to sign four new players this summer, but uncertainty hangs over as many as 10 members of Manchester United's first team squad, according to the Telegraph.
The Dutchman spent £150m during his first transfer window at Old Trafford and another spree has been sanctioned with priorities lying at right-back, centre-half, central midfield and centre-forward.
The possible sale of David de Gea could also see United on the lookout for a new goalkeeper.
The paper also claims that Van Gaal is unlikely to be sacked even if the club finishes outside the top four places, though a second season of failure is unthinkable for the 63-year-old.
Southampton full-back Nathaniel Clyne has been repeatedly scouted by United, while ball playing centre-halves Aymeric Laporte of Athletic Bilbao and Van Gaal's former charge Mats Hummels of Borussia Dortmund are also on the manager's radar.
Van Gaal's pursuit of Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman, whom he worked with during his time as the Dutch national team coach, has suffered a setback, however, with the midfielder ruled out until pre-season after undergoing surgery.
Radamel Falcao is increasingly unlikely to remain at Old Trafford beyond his current loan deal from Monaco, leaving Van Gaal to consider an approach for Paris Saint-Germain hitman Edinson Cavani.
Burnley's Danny Ings, who is expected to cost around £5m in compensation, is also on United's radar, while there are efforts to keep Robin van Persie in Manchester ahead of the final year of his contract.
Both Michael Carrick and Ashley Young are likely to be considered for new deals but Javier Hernandez, Phil Jones Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans and Rafael da Silva all face the prospect of being moved on.
