Barcelona Chief Fails to Rule Out Possible Lionel Messi Move to Manchester City

Barcelona international sporting director Ariedo Braida has refused to rule out the possibility that four-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi could move to Manchester City.

Speaking to Catalan TV channel Esport 3, Braida suggested that the amount of money in football in the modern day is such that clubs like City and Paris Saint Germain have the ability to make offers that Barca would be unable to refuse.
While he maintains the move is unlikely, he failed to declare that any move is completely off the table for the 27-year-old Argentinian.

Braida said: "(Messi) is a phenomenon comparable to Maradona and Pele. We can all see that, with his speed and his incredible way to see the goal.

"I believe it's very difficult that Messi will leave Barcelona, but at times in football strange things happen.
"Now with these clubs that have so much money like (Manchester) City and PSG, certain amounts don't seem to have a value. In football things happen that appear impossible but I hope he will remain."

Messi was linked heavily with a move to the Premier League at the turn of the year after falling out with head coach Luis Enrique, but matters have since calmed with both parties denying any rift still remains. Messi is contracted to Barcelona until 2019, and has a £205m release clause in his current deal.
