Barcelona 2-1 Real Madrid: Catalans Topple Madrid as Suarez Sends Barca 4 Points Clear
Despite a vivacious performance from Real Madrid, the home side opened and closed the scoring at Camp Nou on Sunday as Barcelona picked up El Clasico’s coveted three points and hold a firm grip onto the La Liga throne.
Barcelona faithful filled Camp Nou, working hard as the home side’s twelfth man, while Ronaldo’s first touch (and every touch following) was met with a choir of boos from the home crowd.
Luis Enrique’s side would be the first to produce a goal scoring opportunity with two minutes on the clock. Iniesta drove the ball to goal, exchanging a one-two with Suarez before a reverse pass to Rakitic. Real Madrid defended efficiently and reduced the danger to a Barca corner.
While Barcelona enjoyed the majority of the possession in the first quarter, it was Real Madrid who nearly open up the scoring in the 12th. A Benzema break away sends a volley into the far post to meet Cristiano Ronaldo who hits it into the woodwork.
