Faustino Asprilla: Falcao’s Relationship With Louis van Gaal Is ‘Broken’
Former Premier League striker Faustino Asprilla thinks that Radamel Falcao will leave Manchester United as his relationship with Louis van Gaal is already ‘broken’.
The Dutchman left the forward out of his squad last weekend to play Southampton – a match which United lost – with Van Gaal explaining that the Colombian striker was rested. However, there has reportedly been a strong reaction from the Falcao camp and he was said to be unhappy at being dropped.
Falcao could return in place of the injured Robin van Persie this weekend against QPR, but Asprilla, also Colombian, thinks that the writing is already on the wall.
Asprilla told IB Times UK: ”If Van Gaal continues he will leave.
“I think it is a relationship that has already been broken. Falcao understands that the coach does not want him. I remember when I went to Newcastle Kevin Keegan wanted me. He supported me a lot and here it is obvious that Van Gaal does not trust Falcao.
“It is sad to see how he is treating Falcao. The problem is not Falcao, but the coach. Falcao had an injury earlier in the season, but after he proved that he is still the same top scorer he used to be.”
Asprilla himself was unsure why Falcao was left out of the side, and his absence was a point stressed even more intensely when United failed to score over the course of the match with Saints.
He continued: “He played five games and scored goals. But this is all about giving him confidence. After playing well some games it is inexplicable that he suddenly stops playing.
“The truth is that I do not know what Van Gaal is trying to do at United. And I think both players and fans are also confused. He does many changes without reasons.”
